About
Shirene Anand (b.2002, Meerut, India) is a New York-based visual and performing artist whose bold and evocative images offer a window into the evolving narrative of New India, frequently engaging with themes of identity, with the juxtaposition of India’s rich past with its contemporary realities. Through her images, she reflects a nation in transition, where its roots intertwine with modern aspirations. A photographer and creative director by profession, she graduated in May 2024 with a B.F.A. in Photography & Imaging and a B.A. in Art History from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and was also included in the prestigious Dean’s List for the same academic year. Beyond her academic and creative endeavors, Shirene brings a deep sense of cultural global perspective, where she did a study abroad semester in Florence, Italy, which deeply influenced her image-making and curatorial practices. Growing up in India has instilled in her a profound appreciation for the diversity of human life and the power of art to transcend cultural divides.
Her prior exhibitions include group showcases at Photoville in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Hypha Studios in London, and The Red House in New Delhi, among others. She has been involved in editorial and journalistic photography for The Times of India, PhotoVogue, and DominAsia Magazine, and documented New York Fashion Week in 2023. She has served in key positions at some of the world’s most prestigious galleries, including Gagosian Gallery in New York, the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, and Aicon Contemporary, New York. Most recently, she hosted her solo exhibition ‘Shakti’ at The Glass House in Meerut, India – an event that garnered widespread critical acclaim and was hailed for its striking interplay of heritage, gender, and visual form.
